Rachel was born at Mary Greely Medical Center and grew up a few blocks from Sawyer Elementary. She is the daughter of two public school teachers, Vonda and Alan Junck.
Rachel is the middle child (but only by a couple of minutes!). Her twin sister, Taylor, attends the University of Iowa and is studying biomedical engineering.
Her younger brother, Scott, just graduated from Ames High and will attend the University of Iowa this fall.
While her siblings are both traitors (kidding!), Rachel has always been a proud Cyclone.
Rachel loved growing up in Ames.
She spent hours reading at the Ames Public Library, kayaking with friends at Ada Hayden on the weekend, and discovering her interest in engineering while participating in science programs on ISU’s campus.
Ames was the center of her perfect childhood and it has shaped Rachel into the woman she is today.
Giving back to the community she loves has been central to her entire life.
Mentoring kids at Fellows Elementary taught her patience and the importance of investing in future generations. Volunteering and cleaning up the highway with the Ames High Key Club opened her eyes to the effect small actions can have on our wider ecosystem. Registering her fellow students to vote instilled in her the value of civic engagement, and representing her sorority as a Panhellenic Delegate has taught her the importance of stepping up and leading in your community.
In every facet of her life, Rachel has always worked hard to make the world around her a better place. She seeks to represent Ward 4 on City Council to continue making Ames the best it can be for all who live here.
